REFLECTION

The inspiration for my EDGE project came from talking to a mentor at the EDGE center. I was stuck and did not know what kind of project I wanted to do, and after she was done talking to me and learning about my major and what I wanted to do, she suggested lesson plans.

Some of the complications I encountered in my project was learning how to make things developmentally appropriate for preschoolers. There are lots of ideas out there of what to teach children, or how to teach children, but a lot of them are not appropriate for the mental development of preschoolers. I’ve had to learn how to adjust these ideas to be developmentally appropriate, and interactive to best teach preschoolers.

This project will be beneficial for the future preschoolers that I get the opportunity to teach one day. Having these lesson plans already planned and ready to go has turned my mind more into the mind of a teacher, better preparing me for my future career. Having my mind trained like this allows me to give the very best I can to my future students.

This projected has really benefited me in some unexpected ways. I never expected to become more trained to see things through the eyes of a preschool teacher, where I would notice things in my day to day life that I could use to teach preschoolers. It’s helped me be more prepared and less scared for my first year of teaching. I will still have lots of preparation to do to be ready for my first year, but I have a good start.
